Modern homes contain more technology than ever: lighting, heating, music, televisions, security cameras, door entry, gates and automated blinds. When every system has its own controls and mobile app, everyday tasks can quickly become unnecessarily complicated.
Control4 brings these technologies together into one integrated system, providing a consistent and straightforward way to control your home.
What can Control4 do?
A Control4 system is designed around the property and the way its occupants live. It can integrate systems including:
- Lighting and lighting scenes
- Heating and climate control
- Televisions, streaming services and home cinemas
- Multi-room music
- Automated blinds and curtains
- CCTV and security
- Gates and video door entry
Control is available through wall-mounted or portable touchscreens, handheld remotes, keypads, televisions and the Control4 app on compatible phones and tablets.
Because the different systems are connected, one command can perform several actions. A Goodnight button might switch off selected lights, turn off televisions and music, close blinds and confirm that external doors are secure. An Away scene could reduce the heating, turn everything off and prepare the security system as you leave.
The result is less technology to think about, not more.
Designed around you
Control4 is not a fixed, off-the-shelf product. Every system is programmed around the property, the equipment being integrated and the client’s individual preferences.
Frequently used rooms, devices and scenes can be placed prominently within the interface. Different rooms can have their own favourites, ensuring that the controls remain relevant to where they are being used.
The system can start relatively simply and expand over time. A client might begin with lighting, television and audio control, then add heating, blinds, door entry or security as their requirements develop.
Control from away from home
With the appropriate Control4 Connect service, the Control4 app can provide secure access to the home while you are away.
You could check whether lights have been left on, adjust the heating before returning, receive selected system notifications or respond to a visitor using a compatible video entry system.
Gates may also be opened remotely where appropriate. However, OPS does not generally recommend remotely unlocking a main entrance door when nobody is present.
Remote access should always be configured around the property and its security requirements. It is not simply a case of making every function available from everywhere.
Remote support from OPS
One of the significant advantages of a properly connected Control4 system is that many support tasks can be completed remotely.
Subject to the system being online and remote service access being enabled, OPS can securely connect to investigate faults, check the system configuration and make minor programming changes. This can often avoid waiting for a site visit.
Examples of work that may be completed remotely include:
- Renaming rooms, sources or buttons
- Adjusting lighting scenes
- Changing schedules and automated events
- Investigating devices that have stopped responding
- Updating compatible drivers
- Making minor changes to system programming
- Checking the system following network or equipment changes
Some faults will still require a visit—for example, failed hardware, damaged cabling or equipment that has lost its physical network connection. However, remote diagnosis can help identify the likely cause before an engineer attends.
Keeping the system updated
Smart-home systems need ongoing care, particularly as streaming services, mobile operating systems and connected products change.
OPS can review and apply suitable Control4 software, driver and security updates remotely. Before carrying out a major update, we assess compatibility, check the network connection and create a system backup.
Updates are managed rather than installed simply because a newer version exists. This helps protect system reliability and reduces the risk of disrupting equipment that is already working correctly.
Why choose Control4?
The strongest reason to choose Control4 is not simply the number of products it can control. It is the way those products can work together through one carefully designed interface.
When professionally designed, installed and supported, Control4 can make a technically sophisticated home feel simpler, more comfortable and easier to manage—both while you are at home and when you are away.
